The Obstetrics department at MMHRC is a premiere patient care and teaching centre. Our aim is to provide the highest quality of care for women experiencing complicated pregnancies in a multi disciplinary setting in liason with our other colleagues in various branches of medicine, surgery, paediatrics, radiology and anaesthesia.
At MMHRC we have a dedicated Obstetric critical care High Dependency Unit (HDU) to care for mothers with high risk pregnancy. Mothers suffering from various medical disorders such as epilepsy, severe pre-eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, chronic hypertension, heart diseases, renal disorders including post renal transplantation, SLE and diabetes are cared for routinely in our centre.
We provide pre-conception counselling, genetic counselling, prenatal diagnosis including comprehensive and targeted USG, first trimester aneuploidy screening, chorion villous sampling, amniocentesis and foetal blood sampling. Foetuses with severe oligohydramnios and IUGR are periodically reviewed with Foetal Doppler, Biophysical profile and Cardio tocographs (NST and CST) and delivered at the most appropriate time for better post natal survival. We also have extensive clinical experience in the management of preterm labour, cervical insufficiency and preterm rupture of membranes with optimal results.

We care for women from adolescence to menopause and beyond. Each individual patient is counselled individually, regarding her problems and guided about the various treatment options available. Finally we help her choose an appropriate tailor made treatment, taking into account her special needs and medical conditions Minimal access surgeries (Laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures) are performed on the majority of patients needing surgery, for better patient comfort at an affordable cost.

Invasive cancers like
- Cervical Cancers
- Endometrial / uterine cancers
- Ovarian cancers
- Vulva cancers
These invasive cancers are managed with appropriate radical surgeries like Wertheim’s Hysterectomy and pelvic node dissection, staging procedures etc as the case warrants. Suitable adjuvant therapy (pre or post-operative) is given with due consultation with our radiation and medical oncology colleagues.
Counselling is given to help the couple adopt the appropriate method of contraception following delivery or abortion. MMHRC is recognized by the Government as a centre for performing tubectomies.
MMHRC is a recognized centre for DNB training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology since 2000. We take up 2 primary (MBBS) and 2 post DGO candidates every academic year for training.
