The MMHRC Blood Bank is a vast and sensitive department. It is responsible for saving the lives of patients in critical situations, without any delay. The staff ensures that every unit of blood leaving our department is safe for our patients.
Our essential functions are donor motivation, blood collection from the appropriate donor, screening of donor blood, processing & preparing the blood & blood components, proper storage of blood & blood components and timely supply of these components to the patients.
We follow standard and accepted procedures while testing for compatibility. All our tests are cross-checked and meticulously documented. Equipment used in the Blood Bank is calibrated and maintained regularly while the Reagents used are subject to frequent quality tests.
Haemapheresis (or) Apheresis is the collection of anticoagulated whole blood from a donor, its separation into components, retention of desired component and return of remaining constituents to the donor. It is also useful to remove unwanted component (antibodies in the plasma) from the donor. This technique is useful for harvesting components like platelets, plasma and even to collect peripheral blood stem cells.
The cell separator can be used in various conditions,
It is done to detect the presence of autoantibodies in the patient’s blood.
