Meenakshi College of Nursing is an Educational Institution managed by S.R. Trust, a public charitable trust registered (Reg. No. 291/85) in 1985. It is an unit of the well-reputed Meenakshi Mission Hospital & Research Centre (MMHRC), a 1000-bed multispecialty hospital that renders 'world-class healthcare at affordable prices' for more than 30 years. MMHRC is a landmark institution that follows a unique model of offering world-class medical treatment to the people of South Tamil Nadu, irrespective of their affordability. MMHRC also floats charity programmes that offers medical assistance to the poor and the needy.
MMHRC is also a well-known teaching institute, recognised by the Medical Council of India, New Delhi for its Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) training program for Medical Under Graduates and by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), New Delhi for its Post-Graduate Medical Courses.
Following this, MMHRC now offers the B.Sc Nursing programme for nursing aspirants under its Meenakshi College of Nursing, an approved institution by the Government of Tamil Nadu (G.O.(Ms).No. 261 dated 26.07.2017). Meenakshi College of Nursing is affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and recognized by the Indian Nursing Council and Tamil Nadu Nurses’ and Midwives‘ Council. The College aims at training professional nurses to deliver quality nursing care to individuals, families and groups, not only in health care institutions but also in homes and community and to participate in nursing administration, teaching and research.
The Nursing Programme:
The College conducts the B.Sc. Nursing programme for 4 years. The B.Sc. Nursing programme is intended to develop the student as a person who, upon graduation will strive to fulfil their role as a member of the health team to uphold the dignity of the profession and to establish professional autonomy in nursing education, practice and research. Our extensive practical training sessions is aimed to prepare graduate nurses to have the ability to approach healthcare from a broader and deeper knowledge base and from a greater capacity to apply analytic, synthetic and interpretative skills to their role.
No man is too poor to afford first grade medical treatment. In order to achieve this, college believes in providing students an education of the highest grade in art and science of nursing for the relief of pain.

Eligibility for Admission:
Medium of Instruction:
English shall be the medium of instruction for all the subjects of study and for examinations of the Bachelor of Science degree course in Nursing.
The programme is spread over four years and includes internship (Integrated Practice). University examinations are conducted at the end of each year. The curriculum and the syllabus for the course shall be as prescribed by the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R Medical University and is subject to modification from time to time.
Internship (Integrated Practice):
Internship means 8 hours of integrated clinical duties in which 2 weeks of evening and night shift duties are included in the final year.
Internship should be carried out as 8 hours per day @ 48 hours per week.
Students during internship will be supervised by nursing teachers.Fourth year final examination will be held only after completing internship.
No candidate will be admitted to the University Examination unless she has put in attendance not less than 80% in theory and practical in the relevant subjects every year. 240 working days in an academic year is compulsory.
Since a “Hands on” experience is a major component of Nursing Education, students who miss any part of the clinical experience for reasons other than availing eligible sick leave will be required to compensate.
A candidate must have 100% attendance in each of the practical areas before award of degree.

Uniform & Books
The candidates are expected to have 5 sets of prescribed uniforms for the entire course, including 2 sets of community health nursing uniform. Students should buy the sports uniform suggested by the college. When in uniform, no form of jewellery is permitted to be worn except small earrings. When in uniform, hair must be put-up.
The uniform prescribed by the college will be made available to the students on payment. Students are required to wear the uniform during their clinical experience.
The candidates are expected to purchase the text books, note books and record books as prescribed.
Fees and Payment
Tuition fees and other fees of each year should be paid at the beginning of the year. The exact fees to be paid by students of all categories will be made known at the time of selection / admission. No student will be allowed to attend classes unless she complies with all the admission requirements and pays all the fees for the year.
Fees, once remitted, will not be refunded.
Students who voluntarily withdraw from the college shall be required to pay full fees for the entire course (4 YEARS).
The college does not take any responsibility for the loss of personal property. Students who keep any valuable goods such as jewellery do so at their own risk.
Vacations are planned according to the programme. If a student is not able to return on time due to illness, the Principal should be intimated immediately, followed by a written explanation. On return, she should submit a medical certificate issued by a registered medical practitioner stating the full details of her illness and treatment. Normally no other leave will be given.
For any day of absence without prior permission, three days will have to be made up before the end of the academic year.
Students are eligible for 10 days of sick leave in a year. Days availed over and above the prescribed number of sick leave will be considered as time loss. The disciplinary measures in such cases will be decided taking into consideration the individual cases.
The building comprises of spacious and well ventilated classrooms, well equipped laboratories, library with all essential amenities.
We have qualified and well experienced faculty, who are very sincere and dedicated to the profession. Class room teaching and clinical training are well planned and organized. Periodic assessments such as weekly and monthly tests, model exams are conducted to evaluate the students progress.
Fundamentals of Nursing Lab
Our Nursing laboratory has all the infrastructure to replicate a hospital to help students practice procedures with high fidelity simulator mannequin for learning basic and advance nursing skills.
Community Health Nursing Lab and Field Practice
Our Lab is well equipped with bags and all the needed equipment for learning. We have a tie up with primary health centre and urban health centre to practice and provide care for people at home, school and industry. We have our own rural health centre in the premises and it provides treatment for minor ailments and antenatal care.
We also have a Nutrition Lab, AV Aids Lab, Pre-Clinical Lab and a well equipped MCH Lab with delivery simulator for learning the mechanism of normal labor as prescribed in the INC curriculum.

Field visits are arranged every year. Students are taken to various organizations accompanied by faculty members for a better exposure to advanced technology in the relevant discipline.
The students residing in the hostel are expected to abide by the rules and regulations of the hostel and are accountable to the Warden / housekeeper. A booklet of hostel rules and regulations will be given on admission.
The Students must maintain a sense of decorum and discipline inside the College and in its associated institutions, and in public places. ‘Ragging’ is strictly prohibited. The institution will deal firmly and strictly with all instances of ragging. Please refer to the anti ragging policy of the college. Students should refrain from disfiguring walls and furniture, and from other objectionable practices.
Students are required to carry their Identity Cards certified up-to- date, at all times.
Recreation and Sociel Activities
Recreation facilities are provided with a view of encouraging students to take interest in keeping themselves physically fit and mentally alert and in getting added vitality for meeting the demands of nursing education and practice.
Participation in sports and games facilitates development of friendly competitive attitude. Students are encouraged to make use of these facilities.
The well-stocked Library at MMHRC serves all user groups at the hospital, to update their knowledge and skills. It is the only referral academic library at the hospital and serves as a centre for primary information resources. Health professionals can access up-to-date, high quality and reliable medical information. . New titles are added regularly.
It offers a wide range of relevant information, literature, documents and records apart from audio cassettes, CDs, print and e-journals for information, research and reference. This rich repository of information offers books on medicine, management, hospital administration and even Siddha medicine. International and national journals are available for keeping abreast with world trends in medicine and health care
