India leads the world in deaths due to heart attack among individuals aged between 35 – 50 years. This is an alarming statistic and is chiefly caused by unhealthy lifestyle and eating habits. Sedentary lifestyle, in which an individual sits for more than three hours at a stretch makes one three times more susceptible to heart disease. According to heart specialists across the world, both smoking and drinking are a strict no-no, when it comes to heart health. There are over 4000 carcinogens in cigarettes and alcohol is one of the main reasons for the inflammation of arteries, which leads to heart attacks.
Diabetes is a major cause of heart disease among Indian men and women.
All speakers unanimously stressed on the importance of creating awareness about heart health and heart disease among youngsters in schools and colleges.
