If I need to receive treatment at MMHRC, where should I start or who should I contact?

If this is your first visit to our hospital, please visit the Reception area and our service staff will explain procedures and assist you. First, a hospital identity card will need to be made, which will help us keep track of your medical records and case history every time you visit us.

What are the timings for outpatients?

Outpatient services are offered between 7.00 am -6.00 pm every day of the week. Cardio thoracic Surgery, Medicine, Diabetology, Cardiology OPDs and Master Health Checkup will start by 7 a.m. and other OPDs will start by 9 a.m. Those who come beyond the stipulated hours will also be accommodated. Emergencies are handled round the clock at MMHRC

What is the cost of Registration and treatment?

First-time patients pay Rs. 100- Rs. 500 as registration fee depending on the medical specialty treatment needed. This fee covers outpatient treatment for 15 days. The actual cost of treatment varies from case to case, and starts from Rs. 250 onwards

In case I am admitted in the hospital, where can my attendees / relatives stay?

Your attendee is allowed to stay with you during your hospitalization. Only when the patient is in the intensive care unit (ICU), no attendee is allowed to stay with the patient, because of the risk of infection. However, the family / relatives are permitted to visit the patient at particular timings scheduled by the hospital. In case of an emergency, the family / relatives will be allowed to visit at any time.

If I am unable to afford treatment at MMHRC, how do I qualify for free treatment?

At MMHRC certain treatments like cleft lip / palate, Save the Children program, Camila Children Cancer Care, and palliative care are provided free of cost. The hospital may in some cases offer free or discounted treatment for extremely poor patients. Please get in touch with the Patients' Relations Office and meet the Manager in person to explain your case.

Can I book a room in advance for in-patient admission?

We do not offer advance reservation of rooms, since we want to ensure every patient coming to MMHRC is able to get a room. However, we will endeavour to find you a room of your choice upon admission.

What are the languages spoken at the hospital?

Tamil, English, Hindi, Urdu, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Bengali are spoken at the hospital. Our staff can also speak several other languages, if required.

What types of treatments do you provide?

We are a multi-specialty hospital and are equipped to take care of all your medical needs. If I need to find out the health status of a relative admitted at the hospital, who should I contact?

Whom should I contact to get my Discharge Summary?

The Discharge Summary will be handed over to you by the Ward Secretary at the time of discharge.

Will you share my medical records with anyone? Will you give a copy of my medical records to any of my relatives?

Your medical records are strictly confidential. We will only share your Discharge Summary upon the request of a referring physician. "Discharge Summary" or "Doctor's Certificate" can be issued if it is required for work / school. In exceptional cases, such as legal / medico-legal cases your medical records may be shared at the request of a court of law, after the approval of the Medical Records Manager.

Referral Doctors

If I want to find the Discharge Summary or medical health status of my patient, whom should I contact?

Discharge Summary is handed over to the patient upon discharge. Should you require additional information, please contact the Medical Records Manager or the Marketing referral Team.

If I want to refer patients to MMHRC, how do I become a Referring Physician? How will I benefit by doing so?

Visa & Master Card are accepted at MMHRC. ATM Cards with a Visa or Master Card logo are also accepted. At present, we do not accept American Express

Madurai is easily accessible by road, rail and air.

  • If you are travelling by bus, please get off at the Mattuthavani Central Bus Station. The hospital is walking distance from the bus station.
  • Take a taxi or auto to reach the hospital from Madurai city.

Insurance Policy Holders

I have a Health Insurance Card. How can I receive treatment using this card?

When you arrive at the hospital, please let us know you have an insurance card and our service staff will help you get your medical treatment from your company so you can receive "cashless" treatment. Occasionally, your insurance may require you to pay us the charges up-front, and you will be reimbursed later. We will advise you accordingly. Please note that your ATM/credit card is not a health insurance card.

DNB & CRRI Internships

The National Board of Examination has accredited MMHRC with 16 PG Courses - 8 Broad Specialties, 7 Super specialties and 1 Fellowship Course. Students who are selected for the PG Courses, as per the existing NBE norms, complete their course at the end of the time period stipulated by the NBE. The candidates appear for the theory examination of the NBE and follow further guidelines of the NB.

MMHRC is one of the prestigious Hospitals recognized for the Compulsory Rotating Internship Course (CRRI) by the Medical Council of India.

What are the Residency programs and details regarding each course?

There are Eight Broad Specialty PG Courses and Seven Super Specialty Courses as indicated below. The subjects of Orthopedics, Anesthesiology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Pediatrics have an additional Secondary seat for every primary seat. Secondary seats are filled by candidates who have completed the respective Diploma Courses. The current duration of the primary seat PG course is three years and the secondary seat is two years. Both primary and secondary candidates have to clear the CET exam just before the National Academic selection.

The department of CTVS and Neurosurgery run six years courses admitting Candidates after MBBS & 1 year rotating internship and a CET Pass.

What are the benefit of doing a PG Course at MMHRC ?

Doing a PG course at MMHRC can be an overwhelming experience!

  • The PGs have access to the state-of-the-art Medicare run by top rated Medical Professionals and Consultants.
  • They get to see not only the routine cases but also rare and complicated cases. Clinical Cases - a therapeutic dilemma, diagnosed by the exhaustive medical facilities available with us    
  • They get to present clinical cases in the Clinical Society meet of MMHRC. This exercise sharpens their presentations.
  • The IMA MMHRC meet is held once a month. The students can take part in a lecture given by a visiting guest.
  • An enormous amount of knowledge is accrued when the students take part in the  monthly patient care Review Meet
  • In addition PGs can take part in many CME's conducted at MMHRC or at Madurai in their specialties

  • They are taught the 'Art of Practice' by the Founder Chairman, Dr.Sethuraman over several days - an invaluable lesson for their future.

  • On 30th June, each year the hospital conducts the DNB farewell to the PGs of that year with a dinner and hands over a completion certificate.

What are admission requirements for the programmes?

  • All Candidates should have successfully completed MBBS, recognized by MCI and completed one year of Internship.
  •  All Candidates interested in PG Courses (including) Secondary should have appeared in the CET exam of NBE, conducted recently.
  • The selection of Primary Candidates is central whereas the selection of Super Specialty and Secondary candidates is done at the Institutional. 

But these can change.

  • The selection of PGs is based entirely on merit. Though there is an interview, it is to familiarize them with students and does not carry marks.
  •  Interested candidates can request for an application form from our Human Capital Department (HCD) and submit their applications.
  •  We require candidates to complete the application form and submit the supporting documents:
    • MMHRC Application form
    • Rs.1500 demand draft (Application fees)
    • Bio-data / Curriculum Vitae
    • Admission Interview (only selected candidates will be invited)
    • Academic transcripts
    • CET pass certificate (Date of Examination)

When do the programmes begin and what are the admission deadlines?

Pediatrics, Surgery and all Super Specialty programmes commence every January.
The rest of the courses commence in July. Thus the candidates applying for the January course should have passed CET in December and candidates applying in July should have passed CET exam in June that same year.

How many PGs are being trained at MMHRC ?
Currently, we have 54 PGs being trained on campus.

Do the PGs pay for the course or do they get a stipend?

  • The PGs pay Rs. 50,000 (at present) p.a in Jan / July as decided by the NBE.  
  • These students get accommodation in the hospital.
  • The stipend offered by the Hospital is more then that stipulated by NBE.
    • Broad specialty PGs get Rs.15000, Rs.16000 and Rs.17000 for the first, second and third years.
    • Super Specialty PGs get Rs. 20000, Rs. 21000, Rs.22000 for the first, second and third years.
    • The stipend is enhanced by the management from time to time.

Does the Institute provide hostel and canteen facilities ?

  • The hospital provides bachelor hostel accommodation
  • There are several restaurants in the hospital campus, providing meals at a subsidized cost for our medical resident and interns.

Which institutions accredits the MMHRC Residency Programme?
    
The residence programs in MMHRC are accredited by the Indian Medical Council.

Please tell me about the Residency Training format at MMHRC ?

  • Each department has a fixed medical programme in six month modules for each subject.
  • The student sees cases, discusses with seniors and gets to manage them, stepwise.
  • He / She will be requested to do night duties with suitable accommodation provided.
  • Each PG has to maintain a log book and as well as write a thesis, guided by a Consultant in that specialty.
  •  The PGs can present their work in conferences as well as write papers in the Madurai Medical Journal, a monthly medical bulletin distributed to 10000 practitioners around Madurai or contribute to other Journals.

What, when and how are the exams (in any Specialty)?

There is a six monthly review during the course when an external examiner will conduct a theory practical exam and check the log book and thesis. Each specialty may conduct internal exams. The NBE will conduct the final exams at the end of two/ three years.

Please tell me more about the CRRI / Internship program at MMHRC ?

  • MMHRC is on the list of selected hospitals to conduct Residency Training.
  • Each year, we have an intake of 10-15 students who usually start the program in June-July
  • Students in the program receive a stipend of Rs.3,000 and have access to most of the services enjoyed by PG residents.

The University offers job-oriented  courses at the Hospital to offer the students the maximum practical experience, mainly through hands-on training, thereby enhancing the skills of the students.

What is the admission procedure?

  • Admission is open all year round for most of the courses.
  •  For B.Sc / BBA courses, students are admitted purely on merit, considering their past academic records on a "first-come-first" basis. Application forms can be obtained in person from the Principal by paying the Application & University registration fee of Rs. 135. Applicants are expected to submit their original certificates (Xth,  +2, statement of marks, Transfer, Conduct and Community Certificates), 2 sets of photocopies of their Certificates and 3 passport size photos, along with the duly completed Application Form.

  • For the full time PG Diploma Courses in Management, students are admitted purely on merit, considering their past academic records on a “first-come-first” basis. Aplication forms can be obtained in person from the Principal by paying the Application & University registration fee of Rs. 200. Applicants are expected to submit their original certificates (Xth,  +2, Statement of Marks, Provisional / Convocation, Transfer / Migration, Conduct and Community Certificates), 2 sets of photocopies of their Certificates and 3 passport size photos, along with the duly completed Application Form.

  • MBA ( Hospital administration) is offered by the Department of Management Studies, MKU, in collaboration with the Hospital. Advertisements are released in leading dailies by the University in Jan / Feb. students are admitted purely on merit, considering their past academic records, and their performance in GMAT type entrance examinations, followed by a group discussion and interviews. Application fee is Rs. 600. Applicants need to submit attested photocopies of their original Certificates ( Xth,  +2, Statement of Marks, Provisional / Convocation, Transfer / Migration, Conduct and Community Certificates) along with the duly completed Application Form.

  • PG Diploma Courses in Health Sciences are offered by the Directorate of Distance Education, MKU, in collaboration with the Hospital. Advertisements are released in leading dailies by the University twice a year, enabling admissions for the academic year (July-June) as well as for the calendar year (Jan – Dec). Students are admitted twice in a year, purely on merit considering  their past academic records. Application fee is Rs. 100. Applicants need to submit attested photocopies of their original Certificates ( Xth,  +2, Degree Statement of Marks, Provisional / Convocation, Transfer / Migration, Conduct and Community Certificates) along with the duly completed Application Form.

What are the facilities available at the College?
There are 13 modern and well-equipped classrooms, exclusively for the students.  Additionally there are 4 faculty rooms, 1 students’ seminar hall, 2 students’ labs, 1 store room, 1 students’ library, a medical cum management library, computer centre with Internet access, e-book / digital library, mini playground, students’ mess etc. on the campus.

Do you make arrangements for training / internship programmes?

Yes, our main focus is on intensive hands-on training / internship in the respective areas, at the Hospital.

  • Students of Management Courses undergo management training in 20 areas of the Hospital in partial fulfilment, as a requirement of the course.
  • Students have the opportunity to visit different types of health care organizations like private / government hospitals, single / multi-specialty hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, health centres, health projects, diagnostic centres etc. to get a better understanding of the different types of service providers in the health care industry.
  • Field visits / clinical observation training programmes are organized exclusively for Science Course students ( Applied Microbiology & Applied Biochemistry) in MMHRC. They undergo observation training at the Centre for Research in Medical Entomology, Agricultural College & Research Institute, Coonoor Pasteur Institute, Food Processing Industry, Dairy Products Manufacturing Units etc.
  • Students are actively involved in all our community outreach programmes and health care projects.
  • Students have ample opportunities to develop their skills in events management, as they are totally involved in all our continuing medical education, national as well as international seminars and other training programmes.

Is hostel facility available for out-station students?

  • Separate hostel facilities are available for men and women students.
  • A limited number of shared accommodations are available in the Students’ Hostel. Admission to the hostel is on a “first come first” basis. The students may approach the Warden of the respective hostels, after securing admission. Application forms will be available in the respective hostels during office hours from 9.30am – 4.30pm.
  • Hostel fee is Rs. 4000 p.a for UG students and Rs. 6000 p.a for PG students.

Master Health Checkup

Can I undergo the check-up on a holiday?

Yes, you can undergo the check-up on any day of the week including Sundays and other holidays.

Should I fast before the check-up?

Yes, Do not eat or drink anything with the exception of plain water after 10.00 p.m. on the night before you check-up and do not drink anything or have breakfast before reporting at the hospital.

At what time should I arrive for the check-up?

Please report at the reception counter between 7 a.m. to 9.00 a.m.

Is it safe to take the prescribed medication on the day of my check-up?

If you are under medication, it's alright to have your prescribed medicines with a little amount of water.

Should I carry lunch?

Lunch will be provided as applicable to your medical condition

When will I get the results?

The report will be given to you on the same day.

Is it alright to be accompanied by family members during the day of the test?

Yes, you are free to have the company of your loved ones on the day of your test.
